Panama Railway: the magical journey from Panama City to Colon

Published by Michael Flora On May 12, 2021

Nowadays, people tend to lead fast-paced lives and wish to travel accordingly. Still, once in a blue moon, even we, the humans of the 21st century, stop and see the beauty around us. Such is the example with the Panama Railway. If you wish to embark on a journey from Panama City to Colon, don’t miss out on the magical Panama Railway. By daring to take the longer path, you’ll experience everything from beautiful Panama homes to wonderful nature. Taking shortcuts surely has its advantages. Nevertheless, sometimes the journey is as important as the destination.

The new Panama railroad

Before you dive into the journey to Colon from Panama City, you should have some info on how it all came to be. The Panama Railway was the most costly railroad per kilometer ever constructed. This was true ever since it rolled across the tracks in 1855, after five years and $8 million in investment. Besides the financial difficulties, one of the most significant engineering challenges during the building was that the railroad had to pass through mountains and swamps.

Nevertheless, this is one of the things that makes it special today. It costs $25 to ride the railroad nowadays. This makes the journey one of the easiest and most unique ways to travel from the Pacific to the Atlantic. This is a great way to experience more than just one beach along the mesmerizing coast. The captivating beachside Panama real estate comes as a shock to many and makes the journey from Panama City to Colon even more intriguing.

Furthermore, once you leave behind the Panama condos, the railroad’s luxury passenger service enables passengers to journey through Panama’s lush jungles, which flank the scenic Panama Canal. Both business executives commuting between Panama City and Colon and visitors traveling from Colon’s cruise ports to Panama City have great use for PCRC. This journey truly is one of a kind.

What does the Panama railway look like today?

There are currently five cars in operation. One of these cars is a remodeled 1938 Southern Pacific Dome Car. This one provides passengers with a panoramic view through the windshield and the giant dome above. Rich wood paneling, soft carpets, subdued lamp lighting, wooden blinds, and open-air viewing decks have been used to recreate the authentic atmosphere of the railroad cars. Modern bathrooms and air conditioning are a welcome addition. Of course, all of the cars have a snack service as a nod to modern times. You can also go to the two open viewing platforms and take clear photos of your surroundings.

This magnificent journey passes through the Panama Canal, the famous Gaillard Cut, and over causeways in Gatun Lake, providing breathtaking scenery. Its history, on the other hand, is equally fascinating. This railroad’s historical and economic significance cannot be overstated. It is the product of people who saw the need for an inter oceanic path across Panama’s Isthmus.

The Panama Railroad stations

There are two passenger stations. One is in Panama City’s Albrook area, which also contains a museum. The other is situated in Colon, formerly known as Aspinwall. Regular departures are at 7.15 a.m. from Panama City and 5.15 p.m. from Colon.

Is the journey from Panama City to Colon safe?

The journey from the city to Colon doesn’t present any danger. However, you need to be wary of the fact that Colon is, according to the opinions of many, Panama’s most dangerous city. If you’re going alone, don’t roam around Colon for too long. Since the railway departures aren’t frequent, you can go back to Panama City by bus. Of course, you won’t have to worry about any dangers if you were to hire a tourist company. Joining a tour and going sightseeing in a group is a great solution.

Moving to Panama

If you’ve taken a liking to Panama and wish to stay a bit longer, why not make it an adventure to remember? Relocating to Panama might sound a bit drastic. However, considering all that it has to offer, there’s no reason not to move here. And that is what many American tourists have done recently. You can get the easiest transfer from the US by hiring a company that knows its way around this beautiful place. Just imagine having a chance to journey from Panama City to Colon whenever you wish to!

If you’re looking to settle down here, Panama real estate for sale or Panama rentals are the two choices you can consider. Although Renting Real Estate sounds far more appealing, you never know whether you’ll enjoy the area so much that you’ll end up settling here. Finding a reliable agent will undoubtedly make this decision-making process a lot easier.

Why is Panama City so special?

The city has some of the most remarkable finds when it comes to the real estate market. Although Panama city real estate is surely one of the many reasons for the city’s popularity, that’s not all. Panama City Beach is famous for its beautiful beaches, clear seas, and abundant wildlife. This makes it a perfect destination for a beach vacation. Panama City Beach offers lively shopping, recreational and dining experiences that will surpass your needs. In addition, you can experience scuba diving, fishing, and cruising.

Is the journey from Panama City to Colon worth it?

This luxurious mode of transportation provides a journey through lush rain forests and stunning scenery, and a detailed look at the fascinating past of this incredible country. However, is the journey from Panama City to Colon really worth the drive? It all depends, of course, on what kind of a person you are. Nevertheless, if you’re looking for a bit of adventure, you can’t go wrong with it.
